Tuscany 2007

We’ve just returned from our fourth Annual visit to the Castel in Tuscany www.castelporrona.it and, let me tell you we had an awesome group on hand to enjoy our beautiful Castel and awesome countryside and scenery among the many vineyards and olive groves on this lovely place.

As usual, we stopped in Rome for a few days with ‘Piero’ and ‘Antonio’ at their B&Bs out in Ostia Antica, and later on during the week arranged to meet the others in the group at a beautiful Restaurant, l’Antica Griglia Toscana, 86-92 Via dei Gracchi, Roma (close to the Vatican), a place referred by our AC Flight Crews, who frequent it on their layovers. The Manager, Rosetta fed us ‘till we could take no more and threw in all the wine and water we could drink ‘gratis’- all for only Euro 25, pp. Thanks for the referral Jennifer…What a night!!

On our final day in Rome we arranged for everyone meet at Termini Station for the bus directly to the Castel, which saved a lot of hassle with train schedules etc- of course, we had a wine and cheese party enroute which got everyone in the mood while traveling through the beautiful countryside to Tuscany.

After a short 2-3 hour trip to Castel Porrona we were happy to meet Sergio and his staff who had already arranged the usual Italian wines, cheeses and cold cuts ‘Welcome party’ even though there was a Wedding taking place at the Castel that day. Our party took place at poolside while the wedding ceremonies were conducted up at the old Church in the main courtyard.

As usual, Sergeo had many additional surprises awaiting us during the week including a beautiful ‘NEW LOOK’ Fashion show and dinner out in the Garden and, later on during the week, a wonderful ‘Classical music in the mountains’ show which included (you guessed it) a wine tasting at half-time… even supplied free bus transportation to/from this affair. What a wonderful way to view the beauty of this Romantic area!! My wife was really blown away by it all!!

We traveled to a few different places this time around,( made even easier as Avis up-graded me to a full-size Alfao-Romeo) such as Lucca and had lunch at a different Vineyard in Montalcino- smaller and more intimate than we usually do!! We again purchased some ‘Brunello’ directly from the Vinyard to accompany us home. The highlite though was the day we spent on the Island of Giglio, actually a short ferry ride from Porto Santo Stefano, located very close to the beautiful beaches at ‘Castiglione della Pescaia’,( only an hours drive from the Castel). I could go on forever about this place but I’ve included a few pictures in the webpage at www.airlinestravelclub.com so you can get the idea.

I hope those people who have not as yet visited our Castel in Tuscany can join us on one or both weeks in late August, early September 2008- It may be the last year we are able to get these low prices for you. Please contact us ASAP and book your space. Ciao for now!!
